Grandma's Still Got It: 

Promoting Positive Aging with Cultural Competence

 

Jessica Alden MA, OTR/L, presents this interactive presentation with information drawn from her OTD coursework on cultural competence with the elderly.  Topics such as cultural awareness, statistics of elderly population/disparities, communication strategies, occupational role and techniques for evaluation and treatment planning will be discussed. 

Objectives:

  • Clinicians will demonstrate an understanding of their own cultural identity and biases and how they impact their practice
  • Clinicians will know where to seek out more information to better meet the needs of the diverse elderly
  • Clinicians will demonstrate improved ability to evaluate and communicate in a more sensitive and respectful manner with the elderly
