An overview of occupational therapy practices for spinal cord injury in acute care, acute rehabilitation and outpatient. Detailed education of the treatment planning and goal implementation in each setting will be discussed as well as collaboration with the patient, caregivers and the interdisciplinary treatment team. Personal experiences of presenting therapists will be utilized to demonstrate effective treatment plans. Single patient case study will be shared to show the continuum of care.


Course Objectives:


  • Identify occupational therapy goals in acute care, acute inpatient rehab and outpatient
  • Identify barriers to treatment in each setting
  • Develop basic treatment plan for spinal cord injury patient in each setting
  • Identify how to involve caregivers in each stage of rehabilitation
